Lupita Nyong'o reflects on her recent heartbreak

Lupita Nyong’o, who ended her relationship with boyfriend Selema Masekela, is getting candid about the breakup.

The Oscar winner penned a statement in October 2023 that she has called it quits with her beau. 

In a new cover story for NET-A-PORTER’s digital title PORTER Nyong’o revealed insights into her split.

"I was living in a lot of pain and heartbreak. I looked at the environment of my social media and thought I don’t want to be a part of this illusion that everything is always coming up roses. Surely there is a lesson for me to learn in this, and I just want to be real about it."

Although the Kenyan-Mexican actress suffered a great deal of pain she is hopeful to find love again.

She told PORTER, "Our purpose in life is to love. And so you have to get back in it."

Lupita Nyong'o and Selema Masekela reportedly first met on a flight in 2016, and while it is not known how long they dated, they confirmed their romance in 2022 with matching Instagram posts.
