Shakira, Oprah Winfrey, Kim, Kourtney, Will Smith, and Jennifer Lopez are just a few of the famous people who have joined Meta's Twitter rival, Threads.

Soon after creating their profiles on the new app, which Mark Zuckerberg has dubbed the "Twitter killer," the celebs had amassed tens of thousands of followers.

Along with the Dalai Lama, Jack Harlow, Zayn Malik, Gordon Ramsay, Karlie Kloss, Liam Payne, Ellie Goulding, and others have been spotted using the app.

J.Lo has also joined in posting her first threads, writing: "Hola Threads! What should we thread about first?!", followed by "Can’t get enough of your threads."

In the first few hours after its launch, Threads, Meta's competitor to Twitter, attracted more than 10 million users, according to Mark Zuckerberg, the company's CEO.

The app, which initially runs without advertisements, went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 23:00 GMT on Wednesday. However, because of worries about data privacy, its rollout in Europe has been postponed.

While a number of prospective rivals have emerged for Elon Musk-owned Twitter, one of the largest social networking sites in the world has not yet been replaced, thanks to Threads.

"10 million sign ups in seven hours," Zuckerberg wrote on his official Threads account Thursday.

Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and other well-known figures had accounts already set up, as did The Washington Post and The Economist.

Musk and Zuckerberg are well-known rivals who have proposed a cage fight as a way to settle their score. Zuckerberg also fired a shot in Musk's direction.

Zuckerberg shared a caricature of Spiderman pointing at Spiderman in his first tweet in more than ten years, seemingly alluding to the similarities between Threads and Spiderman.

On Threads, he wrote: "It´ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn´t nailed it. Hopefully we will."

Twitter has claimed it has more than 200 million daily users.
