Sarah Ferguson is doing well after breast cancer surgery.

The Duchess of York has been released from the hospital and is now with her family.

A representative for Sarah Ferguson, reported, "Sarah, Duchess of York was recently diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer detected at a routine mammogram screening. She was advised she needed to undergo surgery, which has taken place successfully."

"The Duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good."

"She is now recuperating with her family", the rep adds.

"The Duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days."

"She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening," the representative said.

Sarah Ferguson is a 'cancer activist'

Fergie and her girls joined the Teenage Cancer Trust for a video chat in July of last year, during which the organization's founders Dr Adrian Whiteson and Myrna Whiteson praised her for her close collaboration with the group over the previous 32 years.

Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice were informed by the creators that their mother "has such humility and such empathy with patients," according to a video posted by Hello! magazine.

Fergie participated in the virtual event and helped the University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally inaugurate a specialised haematology unit.

"This is a special charity that's so very close to my heart," Fergie said in a statement.

"Cancer doesn't just devastate a young person's health, it threatens to take away everything they care about — their identity, their independence, and their dreams. Teenage Cancer Trust's specialist nurses and youth workers provide the very best care and support during treatment and beyond, making sure that cancer doesn't stop young people living their lives."
