No Hard Feelings is getting a pretty hard success on its opening day.
"No Hard Feelings" won the domestic box office on its first day, bringing in $6.25 million from 3,208 venues' preview screenings on Friday and Thursday. Elemental and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse are both holding onto the top spot for the weekend, surpassing "The Flash," which appears to be imploding in its second appearance.
Sony and Columbia's "No Hard Feelings" was anticipated to open with a modest $12 million going into the weekend. The R-rated Jennifer Lawrence movie has already surpassed those projections, and an opening weekend of around $15 million is now expected.
"No Hard Feelings" is getting a boost from an A-list performer like Lawrence and some reliable press coverage (67% approval rating from top critics on Rotten Tomatoes).
As evident by the "B+" Cinema Score grade obtained by polling early viewers, audience buzz isn't too bad either. The movie is doing better than expected, but since it cost $45 million to make, it may be difficult for No Hard Feelings to break even.
In the Gene Stupnitsky-directed film No Hard Feelings, Jennifer Lawrence plays Maddie, a struggling Uber driver who has her vehicle repossessed. After seeing a Craigslist post from two parents donating their old car in return for someone to date their awkward Princeton-bound son (Andrew Barth Feldman), Maddie is determined to turn her fortunes around.
