Sarah Sherman reveals bizarre backstage moment with Paul McCartney

Comedian Sarah Sherman has revealed a surreal backstage moment with music royalty Paul McCartney that left her equal parts shocked and delighted.

The 33-year-old Saturday Night Live star says the encounter happened during a recent SNL episode when McCartney appeared as musical guest for the season finale. 

Sherman had previously joked on the show that her bold hairstyle was inspired by McCartney’s own Wings-era look, a comment that clearly didn’t go unnoticed.

According to Roommates actress, the Beatle later approached her during the end-of-show celebrations and immediately went in for a closer inspection of her hair. 

“He came up and lifted it, asking if it was real or a wig,” she recalled, still sounding stunned by the moment.

She confirmed it was all her own hair, before enthusiastically telling the music icon how much she adored his work, even naming McCartney II as one of her all-time favourite albums. 

Rather than being embarrassed by the praise, the 84-year-old singer reportedly grinned and quipped that he “loves adulation.”

Sherman later joked about the encounter on talk shows, admitting she couldn’t quite believe a Beatle had actually pulled her hair during a casual backstage moment. 

Host Jimmy Kimmel even teased that it must be rare for someone to have their mullet inspected by a music legend.

The comic, who joined SNL in 2021 and was promoted to the main cast in 2023, has built a reputation for her wild, unpredictable humour but even she admitted this real-life moment felt almost too bizarre to script.
