Olivia Wilde has opened up about one of the most difficult public moments of her life, recalling the day she was served custody papers from ex-partner Jason Sudeikis while speaking onstage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas in 2022.
In a recent interview, the actress and director described the incident as “traumatizing,” explaining that she was in the middle of presenting her film Don’t Worry Darling when a woman approached the stage and handed her an envelope marked “personal and confidential.”
Wilde initially assumed it contained work-related material, but later realized it included legal documents related to her custody arrangement with Sudeikis, with whom she shares two children, Otis and Daisy.
According to Daily Mail, she said she managed to complete her speech in front of industry executives and press before breaking down backstage, calling the experience deeply humiliating and emotionally overwhelming.
Wilde added that the moment has remained with her for years and became part of her ongoing therapy and healing process.
The actress also reflected on the wider impact of the incident, saying it overshadowed the work she was there to promote and raised concerns about how legal documents are served in high-profile public settings.
While she has questioned the circumstances, she noted that Sudeikis has denied prior knowledge of the timing and expressed regret over how the situation unfolded.
Despite the painful experience, Wilde emphasized that she and Sudeikis now maintain a more stable co-parenting relationship, prioritizing their children’s well-being following their separation in 2020.
