Shania Twain has opened up about the deeply traumatic experiences that defined her early years, revealing a childhood marked by poverty, fear and severe abuse at the hands of her stepfather, Jerry Twain.

The Grammy-winning singer described growing up in a violent household in Ontario, Canada, where she often felt unsafe and feared for her mother’s life.

In one of the most distressing recollections, Twain said she witnessed her stepfather violently assault her mother during a brutal confrontation, including repeatedly forcing her head into a toilet during an episode of extreme domestic violence.

The singer recalled feeling helpless as a child, believing her mother might not survive the attack.

Twain also revealed that she experienced sexual abuse, which deeply affected her self-image and relationship with her body.

According to Daily Mail, she said the trauma led her to suppress her femininity for years, often hiding her developing figure in oversized clothing and adopting ways to avoid attention in an attempt to stay safe in her own home.

Despite the painful memories, Twain has spoken about how these experiences ultimately shaped her resilience and strength.
