Sam C Wilson has revealed he endured a gruelling “six hours of prosthetics” to transform into Trap Jaw for the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot.
The 35-year-old star lifted the lid on the intense behind-the-scenes reality of blockbuster filmmaking.
The actor, who stars alongside Jared Leto as Skeletor and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, said his days often began in the dead of night as he was glued, painted and fitted into a heavy full-body costume before even stepping on set.
From there, it was straight into high-octane stunt work, wires and physically demanding fight scenes with the cast.
He told The Big Issue that preparation for the role went far beyond makeup, explaining that he and the stunt team put him through a strict training regime before filming even began.
Wilson said he bulked up with carb and protein loading and spent weeks in the gym lifting weights to make Trap Jaw look convincingly powerful.
Once that physical prep was complete, he was thrown into fight choreography sessions designed to give the cyborg villain a sharp, mechanical style of movement on screen.
The transformation didn’t stop there.
Wilson admitted it still feels surreal seeing himself turned into an action figure after being scanned in 3D by legendary prosthetics designer Barrie Gower, known for work on Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.
He said much of Trap Jaw is costume, with only his body forming the base beneath the robotic limbs, jaw and face.
Wilson also teased more Hollywood projects, including Blade Runner 2099 alongside Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, calling it an “out of body experience”.
