Nicolas Cage is opening up about what took place between him and Christopher Nolan, and how he thinks directors handle rejection.
The renowned actor listed a number of acclaimed directors who have not taken well to him turning down a role from them.
In a Q&A with The New York Times the Ghost Rider star revealed that he turned down the Oppenheimer director’s 2002 film Insomnia, which is why the filmmaker won’t ever consider him again.
Cage said, “Most of them, they get their feelings hurt and don’t call you back. It’s happened a million times to me. It’s happened with Christopher Nolan, it’s happened with Woody Allen, it’s happened with Paul Thomas Anderson. They don’t call me back,” referring to directors.
He did add, however, “David O. Russell offered me a movie a million years ago. It was a good movie, and he offered it and I said no, and he’s the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie.”
Notably, the actor-director duo has now connected for the upcoming biopic Madden, with David O. Russell also working on the script as a co-writer.
