Anne Hathaway recently speaks up about her one eye impairment for the first time in last 10 years.
The Devil Wears Prada actress reflects on her struggles with her vision during an appearance on The New York Times’ podcast Popcast.
While speaking to the hosts, Anne reveals that she was “legally blind” in one eye for a decade.
“This is maybe too much information but I was half blind for 10 years,” says the 43-year-old.
The Intern actress opens up that she had an “early onset cataract from ages 30 to 40,” which according to Mayo Clinic, is a “clouding of the lens of the eye”.
Anne notes that for people who have cataracts, “seeing through cloudy lenses is often like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window”.
Mayo Clinic says, “Clouded vision caused by cataracts can make it hard to read, drive a car at night or see the expression on a friend's face.”
However, for the Mother Mary star, the condition reportedly affected her vision “so much that I was basically legally blind out of my left eye” causing her severe stress.
“I wound up getting surgery,” stated the Princess Diaries actress.
Anne also never realised how “bad it had gotten until I could finally see the full spectrum”.
“I've calmed down since then… I didn't realise it was actually taxing my nervous system,” explains the Interstellar actress.
Meanwhile, Anne now really values the blessing of vision because she “literally feels like every day” she wakes up and gets to see the world.
“It’s a miracle,” she previously told Elle magazine.
