Scarlett Johansson has seemingly embarrassed the Paper Tiger filmmaker James Gray at the movie’s premiere at Cannes.
The Black Widow actress was unable to attend the event because she is busy filming The Exorcist reboot and was also unable to attend a call.
During the movie’s stunning 7-minute standing ovation by the audience the movie’s director attempted to give the Tony Award winner a FaceTime call so that she could bask in its glory as well.
Scarlett, however, did not attend the call and James shook his head in mock frustration and gestured at his phone as it went to her voicemail.
Although the Lucy star couldn’t make it to the South of France, her co-stars Miles Teller and Adam Driver, who play brothers in the crime thriller, did.
After the credits and the ovation James addressed the film enthusiasts, artists and studio execs to say, “Cinema needs you guys more than ever, really, this is a very important time, and Cannes is so important for that reason, and you are so important for that reason.”
Notably, the movie’s debut has gotten mixed to positive reviews from critics, and its theatrical release date is yet to be announced.
