Olivia Rodrigo made a standout return to Saturday Night Live, debuting an unreleased song from her upcoming album during her second appearance on the show.
She was introduced by Connor Storrie before taking the stage for a surprise performance that quickly became one of the night’s most talked about moments.
Rodrigo performed the new song titled begged while seated on a swing, a visual that aligns with the cover concept of her upcoming third studio album,
“you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,” which is set for release on June 12.
The track carried a soft, emotional tone, with Rodrigo singing, “All that I want is to know undoubtedly that you just have eyes for me.”
She continued, “All that I want is to sit here silently and watch movies on TV.”
The lyrics further explored themes of longing, including, “What a shame you’re not here / here to witness my devotion and my endless well of needs,” and “I feel trapped inside my life.”
The album was recorded with longtime collaborator Dan Nigro, who previously worked with Rodrigo on Sour and Guts.
She has described the project as a collection of “sad love songs” reflecting a more introspective phase in her writing.
Earlier in the night, Rodrigo opened SNL as host with a monologue revisiting her Disney Channel roots and a playful drivers license parody.
