Fans of Yellowstone have been left gobsmacked after discovering that rugged ranch favourite Luke Grimes isn’t quite the real-deal cowboy they imagined.
The 42-year-old star, who played brooding heartthrob Kayce Dutton from 2018 to 2024, has revealed some of the most bizarre fan reactions he’s faced.
And most importantly, they’re as wild as the Montana plains.
Speaking to a Toronto radio station, Luke laughed off claims questioning his cowboy credentials.
“People genuinely say, ‘You’re not a real cowboy,’” he shared.
“Well, of course I’m not — I’m an actor. That’s the whole point!”
Marshals actor joked that if he 'were' the real thing, he’d be out herding cattle rather than filming hit TV dramas.
Still, the surprising fan confusion shows just how convincing his performance has been.
The American Sniper star has since saddled up again for the CBS spin-off Marshals, keeping the spirit of the Dutton universe alive.
But behind the scenes, the show faced its own drama when Hollywood legend Kevin Costner made a shock exit midway through season five.
Rather than crumble, Luke says the cast pulled together.
“Every year brings challenges — and this was a big one. But we stepped up,” he insisted, praising the final season as “incredible”.
Kevin, 71, later confirmed he was stepping away to focus on his ambitious Western film saga, Horizon: An American Saga, telling fans he simply couldn’t continue juggling both projects.
