Meryl Streep reflects on her friendship bond with Anna Wintour, the former Vogue editor, who is widely considered to be the inspiration behind her character in latest movie.
The actress admits that she finds Anna “very witty”.
But the Mamma Mia! star “doesn’t think” Anna is “mysterious”.
“I just think she has a thing that is out of vogue right now, which is the integrity of her own life, her own space, her own self,” says the 76-year-old while speaking of Anna.
In an interview with E! News, Meryl gushes over Anna, saying, in this “oversharing world where everybody takes you to the bathroom with them before the event and shows you the getting ready and everything, I just love her reticence”.
Elsewhere in the interview, the iconic actress opens up that Anna is not the inspiration behind Meryl’s character Miranda Priestly in The Devid Wears Prada 2 movie.
“I was not interested in replicating right her; I wanted to make my own person,” she tells the outlet.
The actress explains, “I have gotten to know her over the years, I feel like—my Miranda is fully formed.”
“And to the degree that she has evolved or changed or degraded, in some way, it's my own creation,” remarks Meryl.
The Oscar winner however adds that the script has “no relation” to Anna because it’s all made up and isn’t based on anything.
