Sofia Coppola ‘obsessed’ with Britney Spears

American movie-maker Sofia Coppola is all praise for Britney Spears.

The daughter of movie-makers, Eleanor and Francis Ford Coppola, confessed she’s obsessed with Toxic singer.

Speaking to Elle magazine, Sofia said that she is “kind of obsessed” with Britney after watching documentaries made about her life and reading her memoir, The Woman In Me.

Elsewhere in the interview, the director opened up that she’s impressed with Britney’s “punk moment” during her career.

The singer shaved her head back in 2007 and Sofia noted that Britney eventually “became this symbol of women’s rights”.

“That would never happen to a man,” remarked the 54-year-old although she didn’t clarify what she meant by “that”.

Meanwhile, Britney’s biopic, which is based on her best-selling novel, has currently been helmed by Wicked director Jon M. Chu.

Sofia told the outlet that although Jon is doing the movie, she hopes that she “would do that story”.

Later a fan posted a screenshot of Sofia’s interview on Reddit and wrote in the caption, “Love her cheeky comment about the biopic.”

Many fans took to the comment section and shared their views as one said, “Sofia gets it, girlhood & womanhood, the feeling of being trapped. She’d totally pack a punch with her interpretation and direction.”

Another stated, “I’ve always imagined Sofia would be the one to direct the biopic. I don’t see Jon Chu doing it right at all, and not merely because he’s a man,”

“Sofia would craft a better film if the focus were more about her struggles,” added a third fan.
