Actress June Marlow who starred in the popular BBC drama Doc Martin has been making tributes.
The veteran British actress and singer died a natural death in her home in Plymouth accompanied by her family.
The legendary star passed away on 22 February in her house overlooking Sutton Harbour, a couple of weeks after celebrating her 95th birthday on 15 January.
Kate Van Dike, the daughter of Marlow, was an emotional speaker in her speech of gratitude to the staff of the hospice that came to visit her mother and cared about her spending her last days at home.
“They treated Mum with such tenderness and acknowledged her as the most important person,” Kate said.
She went on to explain, “We could never have cared for her at home without their help.”
Marlow did not want to dwell on her sickness although she was old enough. “Mum didn’t want to focus on that,” her daughter said.
“She kept looking forward and was always pragmatic and driven. Even at the end she was still able to flash her beautiful smile.”
She was born in the Barbican Plymouth and discovered at an early age by school teachers, who had observed her perform impressions of Mae West in nativity performances in her school.
She spent the last decades on her career with appearances like Jamaica Inn, The Pickwick Papers, and children drama MI High.
However, Doc Martin, her last appearance in television gave her a household name, as she starred with Martin Clunes and was at 85 years as she featured in the medical drama as Ethel.
