Britney Spears is once again at the centre of public concern after her recent arrest for allegedly driving under the influence, and her ex-husband Sam Asghari is calling on the world to show her compassion.
The 44-year-old pop superstar was taken into custody in Ventura, California last week after police reportedly pursued her vehicle for nearly an hour.
Officers were alerted by a 911 caller who claimed the Toxic singer was “all over the road”, prompting them to track the car until it eventually stopped.
Sources say that she appeared “disoriented” when officers approached her.
She was later booked on suspicion of DUI before being released.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether formal charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
As headlines spread, Sam, who was married to Gimme More hitmaker for just over a year, spoke out to defend the singer and urged the media to respect her privacy.
Speaking to Fox News, the 32-year-old actor and fitness trainer said: “When it comes to people making mistakes, I understand that.
I think everyone deserves privacy. I hope the press has learned from the past and gives her the space she needs.”
For the unversed, Sam and Britney first met in 2016 and went on to tie the knot in June 2022 in a lavish ceremony.
But their relationship later unravelled, with the pair separating in July 2023 and finalising their divorce the following year.
Meanwhile Britney’s former husband Kevin Federline has also voiced sympathy for the singer, suggesting the intense pressures of fame at a young age played a major role in shaping her struggles.
