Hollywood is still reeling from the loss of James Van Der Beek, who passed away on February 11 at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer.
The Dawson’s Creek star, best known for playing Dawson Leery, was praised by colleagues for his generosity and kindness, both on and off set.
Mason Gooding, son of Hollywood icon Cuba Gooding Jr., worked alongside James on his final film, The Gates.
He described the late actor as “seasoned and giving,” explaining how James’ approach to leadership and teamwork left a lasting impact.
“Even though I was tired every day, I still felt like I was being productive and educated on the nature of leading a film,” Mason told Deadline.
“James taught me how to lead with grace and be considerate of all others as he does so effortlessly.”
Varsity Blues actors’ former co-star Michelle Williams also shared heartfelt reflections, admitting she thinks of him and his family “constantly” since his passing.
She thanked fans for their overwhelming support of a GoFundMe campaign set up to help Mrs. Miracle stars’ widow, Kimberly, and their six children: Olivia, 15, Joshua, 13, Annabel, 12, Emilia, nine, Gwendolyn, seven, and Jeremiah, four.
It's worth noting that the fund has already raised over $2.7 million.
The GoFundMe page describes the outpouring of support as “a light in the middle of deep grief,” adding that “James’s spirit continues to bring people together.”
