The family of actor James Van Der Beek has received an outpouring of financial support in the wake of his death at age 48 after a prolonged battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer, with a GoFundMe campaign surpassing $1 million in donations less than 24 hours after it was launched.

Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children are the beneficiaries of the fundraiser, which was organized by close friends amid what the campaign describes as significant emotional and financial strain from extended medical care.

According to Daily Mail, the funds are intended to help cover essential living expenses, household bills and the children’s education as the family adjusts to life without the actor.

Among the prominent contributors is Oscar-winning actress Zoe Saldana, who has pledged a monthly donation of $2,500 to support the family, a gesture widely praised on social media.

Moreover, other sizeable gifts have come from industry figures such as director Jonathan Chu and music manager Guy Oseary.

Van Der Beek, best known for his breakout role as Dawson Leery on the iconic teen drama Dawson’s Creek, died peacefully on February 11, a family statement said, describing his final days as filled with “courage, faith and grace.”
