Timothée Chalamet has hit back at a “punk” co-star who dared question his acting chops despite the star-studded actor’s impressive trophy cabinet.
The 30-year-old Marty Supreme star who has racked up four Academy Award nominations, five Golden Globes, six BAFTAs, ten Critics’ Choice nods and a slew of other accolades, revealed the encounter during a chat with Matthew McConaughey for Variety.
Without naming names, Timothée recalled the moment a fellow ensemble actor mocked his lack of formal acting training.
“He asked me what conservatory I had gone to, and I said I didn’t go to an acting conservatory. And he said, ‘Well, you haven’t trained as an actor then,’” he said.
“We were all part of an ensemble. No names, but the guy was a punk.”
Despite the dig, the Wonka star insisted he’s used to unsolicited advice but praised McConaughey, who starred with him in Interstellar in 2014, for his mentorship.
“You never did that to me, though, which I’m grateful for,” he said.
The Dune actor also opened up about how Matthew inspired his own meticulous approach to acting.
From studying control panels on the Dune 3 set to learning the workings of a tractor on Interstellar, Timothée revealed how he immerses himself fully in his roles.
“I would look at your level of preparation and be deeply inspired,” he said.
He concluded with his philosophy on acting: “As an actor, all you risk is looking foolish, because it’s a tremendously foolish job.
If you can embrace that foolishness, nothing can stop you. You’re on a powerful light source, man, if you can embrace the clown in all this.”
