Hilary Duff has revealed the heartache of being estranged from her sister Haylie, and admitted it’s “the most lonely part” of her life.
The 38-year-old singer, who rose to fame with Lizzie McGuire, confirmed on CBS Mornings that her latest single, We Don’t Talk, is inspired by her fractured relationship with her older sibling.
“It’s definitely about my sister,” she confessed.
“The most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment.”
Hilary, who collaborated on her new album luck… or something with husband Matthew Koma, said she didn’t know how Haylie might react to the song.
“I don’t know if she’ll hear it. I don’t know how she’ll react. It is a really personal part of my life that doesn’t get to stay personal. So I might as well say how it is for me,” she explained.
“I’m not trying to say anything bad. It’s literally just my experience.”
The album also explores her complicated relationship with her father.
On the track The Optimist, Hilary confronts themes of abandonment and familial pressure.
She revealed that growing up as the successful one in her family has been difficult.
Even as the younger sibling, finding a sense of balance and well-being has been a real struggle.
Reflecting on her early fame, the Younger star admitted growing up in the spotlight came with its struggles.
Hilary added that she’s now focused on building a life where she feels “loved and seen for me”.
