Sydney Sweeney is pulling out all the stops for her latest role and it’s safe to say she’s gone the extra mile.
The 28-year-old Euphoria star is set to play boxing legend Christy Martin in an upcoming movie, and she’s left no stone unturned in preparing for the part.
“I was excited to do it. I wanted desperately to do Christy justice and make her proud,” she told OK! magazine.
The Housemaid actress didn’t just hit the gym, she built one in her own house.
With a professional boxing trainer, weight coach, and nutritionist by her side, Sydney worked tirelessly every day to get into peak physical condition.
Her dedication didn’t come easy as she gained a whopping 35lbs for the role, often leaving her feeling “so sick” from the intense diet and training.
“It’s a lot harder to lose than it was to put it on,” she admitted.
And even as she packed on the pounds, stepping into the ring kept the weight coming off fast.
But it wasn’t all punches and protein shakes, the Eden star revealed the emotional side of the role was just as demanding.
“Some days it was about going from training to a big emotional scene. It was a different challenge,” she said, crediting Christy herself for helping her understand the mindset of a fighter.
Reflecting on the experience, she called it “life-changing” and said it taught her to stand up for herself and others.
During the whole process, she also rediscovered a love for boxing that’s clearly here to stay.
