Martin Scorsese is mourning the loss of filmmaker Rob Reiner after his tragic death on December 14.

The American director was found dead alongside his wife in their Brentwood home by their daughter Romy.

The death was officially declared to be a homicide as the couple was found with stab wounds done by “sharp object”.

The Taxi Driver creator has opened up about the death of his peer saying the death was “an abyss in lived reality”.

In a new guest essay for The New York Times, Martin wrote “What happened to Rob and Michele is an obscenity, an abyss in lived reality.”

“Rob Reiner was my friend, and so was Michele. From now on, I’ll have to use the past tense, and that fills me with such profound sadness,” he continued.

Martin reportedly met the late director in the early 1970s at comedian George Memmoli’s gatherings in Los Angeles.

Speaking of his bond with Rob, Martin said “We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room.”

The late couple’s son Nick was charged with first-degree murder of his parents.
