Jessie Buckley is looking forward to the festive season after the success of Hamnet and welcoming her daughter.

The Irish actress has received worldwide praise for her role as Agnes in the fictional imagination Hamnet.

The movie follows the plot of legendary English playwright William Shakespeare and his wife grieving the loss of their son Hamnet, who inspired Hamlet.

Directed by Chloé Zhao and starring Jess alongside Paul Mescal and Joe Alwyn, the movie is being tipped for major Oscar categories.

Jess opened up about the reception of the movie saying she is “proud” of it.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Jess said “I’m incredibly proud of this film, and I’m so proud that it’s being responded to the way it is, and that it is being recognised.”

She also spoke about the opportunity to work with the Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloe saying “She’s such an extraordinary writer — she’s a poet, she’s an editor, she’s an excavator.”

In her words, Jess explains the story as a story about “ambition and creativity and love and loss and parenthood and being able to love with all the capacity that they hold inside themselves.”

In addition to the Oscar buzz, the the American Film Institute has listed it as the top ten movies of 2025.
