Taylor Swift is spilling on the kind of elements and plots that she prefers in her books, and one of her songs off of Evermore captures her preferred storylines almost perfectly.

The Willow singer has often talked about the kinds of books she likes, and is now describing in detail the narratives that hook her in the most.

In her interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert ahead of The Eras Tour docu-series, the 14-time Grammy winner started off by name-dropping Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier as one of the books that contains her favourite elements.

“If there’s a marriage and the marriage isn’t what it seems and it seems like this dude is like ‘Clearly like why are you with him, he’s horrible to you’ Oh! Plot twist, unreliable narrator, she’s the psycho,” Taylor stated.

This plot appears to contain a lot of similarities with her song No Body, No Crime, which begins with the narrator describing the story of Este (a fictional character whose name is likely borrowed from the Haim sisters) a woman who is convinced that her husband is cheating on her.

Este then mysteriously vanishes (suspected to be killed by her husband) which the narrator then takes revenge for by killing Este’s husband and framing his mistress for committing the crime for a life insurance policy.

Notably, Taylor also mentioned an old British mansion convered in moss or ivy, and ghosts or secrets in a family as other archetypes that interest her.

What books has Taylor Swift mentioned?

Taylor has mentioned Normal People, The Great Gatsby, Gone Girl and To Kill A Mockingbird among others.
