Dakota Johnson makes her relationship with work clear

Producer and actress Dakota Johnson has revealed her relationship with her career.

The indie film darling founded her production label Tea Time Pictures back in 2019. On Friday, December 5, during a long, deep chat at the Red Sea Film Festival, Johnson emphasized the battle she goes through working in show business.

“I’m in a love-hate relationship with my job in all aspects,” the Materialists star said. “It’s exhausting. Producing, you see behind the curtain, and it’s really ugly. I don’t like it.”

Johnson also highlighted that finance professionals are sometimes suspicious, something which is “heartbreaking” to the actress.

“As a producer, it’s heartbreaking. As an actress, it’s heartbreaking. But [my job] is also quite fulfilling, and I’m very grateful I get to do both,” she said.

Reflecting on her journey, from breaking out with 50 Shades of Grey to taking on newer projects like Materialists and Splitsville, she explained that she’s in a phase of figuring out what truly aligns with her.

“I’ve definitely been persuaded to do things in the past that I realize in retrospect weren’t right for me,” she admitted.

Johnson added that this learning curve is shaping her search for roles that challenge her, helping her evolve and shed what no longer serves her.
