Jessie J has opened up about giving her ex, Channing Tatum, a heads-up before name-dropping him in her latest track Complicated.
The 37-year-old singer, who dated the Hollywood hunk between 2018 and 2020, references Channing’s 2012 hit Magic Mike on her new LP Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time.
Speaking to The Guardian, Jessie revealed she played the song for the 45-year-old actor first and he loved it.
“I played him the song to see if he’s OK with it and he was,” she said.
“Oh, he’s so sweet. Oh my God, yeah! Channing is such a sweet guy. We were such good friends and had such a good time together.”
On Complicated, the Price Tag crooner sings: “Met a Magic Mike, will that ever be forgotten? ‘Cause everything they write / That's the headline and the topic.”
She also reflects on past years, crooning: “2017 went by ’cause I wanted / 2018 to be mine and be honest.”
While fans speculated that another track, Threw It Away, might be a dig at Channing, Jessie was quick to set the record straight.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Threw it away is NOT about @channingtatum. I would never want his beautiful daughter to ever read any of it thinking I said it about her Dad. Not fair.”
Jessie added: “Channing and I ended our relationship on great terms. I have nothing but respect for him, he was never a beast to me.”
