Noah Schnapp, who starred as Will Byers, had a rocky journey throughout the Stranger Things series run, but not anymore in Season 5.
Netflix’s hit sci-fi horror mystery crashed the streamer as it released on Thursday, November 27, and Will’s plot twist and Vecna’s cliffhanger left fans yearning for more.
First, let’s consider Will’s game-changing twist. The show’s little-hearted teen was abducted into the Upside Down in the first season and was later discovered filled with nasty slush by Vecna, the ultimate villain.
In Season 2, he was possessed by another villain, the Mind Flayer, and was then left behind by his friends as they got more involved in Dungeons & Dragons in Seasons 3 and 4.
Now, in the show’s fifth and final season, Will brings the darkest turn of events as he discloses his own powers. The twist occurs in the fourth episode, Sorcerer, where Will unleashes his controlling power.
Just as Demogorgons are about to attack Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and their friend Robin (Maya Hawke), Will’s eyes turn white and, with a rigid body, he stops the demons in mid-air like an ultimate sorcerer.
He pulls the villains off the ground and kills them, snapping their bones, as he wraps the final episode of the first volume, exhausted and wiping the blood drop running from his nose, like Eleven.
Speaking to Variety, Schnapp revealed his reaction when he came to know about the plot twist, mentioning that the directors didn’t tell him for a long time because of the lack of trust.
“But they told me, like, ‘Sit tight, be excited, like, there’s some good stuff coming,’” he remembered. “I was like, ‘Oh, OK, whatever.’”
Schnapp recalled that the cast received the scripts a week before the table reads, but he only sat to read them on the table read day to make sure he at least knew a bit about his part.
“So I was skimming it, and then, like, literally in the shower getting ready, I got to the end, and I was like, ‘Oh my God!’ I ran out of the shower screaming,” Schnapp said.
At that time, he was living with an assistant, Brooke, and he rushed to him in excitement, telling him, “Brooke! Oh my God, I have powers!”
“I wanted to tell everyone I knew,” he exclaimed. “And of course, I had to wait two years for anyone to see it. But: coolest thing ever.”
