Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton’s infamous “blood vials” are finally being set straight, sending fans into a frenzy.
The 70-year-old versatile actor, who gained widespread recognition for his Academy Award-winning performance and screenplay in Sling Blade, recently gave an interview to Rolling Stone.
While speaking to the outlet, he explained that the pair never actually turned into vampires, despite the media speculation.
“We each had a little locket, literally with a drop of blood in them,” he said.
“That's a romantic little idea, and that's all that was. But by the time it's over, we're vampires. We live in a dungeon, we drink each other's blood, and this kind of stuff.”
For those unfamiliar, the Hollywood couple met while filming Pushing Tin in 1999 and got married in Las Vegas a year later, just after Thornton called off his engagement to Laura Dern.
They also adopted son Maddox from Cambodia in 2002 before divorcing in 2003.
The Landman actor insists the split was civil: “She and I are still very, very close friends. That was one of the greatest times of my life.”
Thornton previously explained the quirky gesture in 2014, saying Jolie brought home a kit to make clear lockets.
“She thought it would be interesting and romantic if we sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets and wore them around our necks, just like you wear a child’s baby hair,” he revealed.
Billy Bob Thornton is now married to Connie Angland, who is not a celebrity.
The couple tied the knot in 2014 and have kept a relatively low-profile relationship compared to his high-profile past romances.
Meanwhile, the Maleficent actress is currently single, and was previously married to Brad Pitt from 2014 to 2016.
The couple, famously known as “Brangelina,” had six children together, three of whom were adopted.
