Johnny Depp has many stories to tell, but there’s one topic he never gets tired of, his decades-long friendship with Tim Burton.
Depp opens up about that bond in Tim Burton: Life in the Line, director Tara Wood’s new four-part docuseries on the visionary filmmaker.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Wood revealed she spent four hours interviewing the actor across two days in France while gathering material for the project.
"I wish everybody could meet Johnny Depp, because that’s another one, you can’t explain Johnny Depp,” Wood said. “You walk in, and he’s so disarming and kind that you’re immediately at ease. He was very open."
The director said that Burton is perhaps Depp's "favorite topic, so he was very willing to chat.”
Depp is one of several well-known Burton collaborators who appear throughout the series, alongside Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder and Helena Bonham Carter.
In the documentary, he reflects on everything from his first meeting with Burton before Edward Scissorhands to the director’s support during challenging moments in his personal life.
“He shared a lot,” Wood told the outlet. “That’s why I’m really happy to be releasing independently, because with all the bonus material, we could’ve made an entire documentary on just Tim and Johnny."
