Did Drew Barrymore face breast cancer scare?

Drew Barrymore, known for her candid nature, has opened up about a recent health scare that left her fans shaken.

The 50-year-old actress, widely recognised for her breakout role as adorable little Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, has revealed she underwent an “emergency biopsy” after a “bad mammogram.”

During a candid chat with comedian Tig Notaro on The Drew Barrymore Show, she confessed, “This is the thing I’ve wanted to risk talking about on this show because — I recently had a scare.”

“I’m completely fine, but I did get a bad mammogram and I got taken into that room and then I had an emergency biopsy and I waited those five days.”

Barrymore praised Notaro’s moving documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which follows poet Andrea Gibson and her wife Megan Falley as they face life after a terminal ovarian cancer diagnosis.

The Blended actress said the film gave her “the courage” to discuss her own experience, calling it “an intimate portrait of courage, strength and humanity.”

Despite turning 50 this year, the Charlie’s Angels icon insists she has no plans to go under the knife.

“I haven’t done anything and I want to try and stay that way,” she said.

Reflecting on ageing, she added with her trademark humour, “I see a lot of turkey neck or I have moments where I’m like, ‘Oh wow, we’re there now!’”
