3 ways Selena Gomez subtly speaks self-love through makeup line

Launched in 2020, Selena Gomez’s cosmetic line Rare Beauty speaks about self-acceptance and breaking unrealistic beauty standards.

Gomez founded the brand to challenge the toxicity of the “perfect” image that social media influences.

Here are the top three ways the pop sensation gives out the self-love message, angled within her brand.

1. Breaking Internet perfection stigma

Recently, the Wizards of Waverly Place alum posted a photo on her makeup line's Instagram handle, featuring herself holding a note.

“I will not compare myself to people on the Internet,” the message read. “EVER!”

The message holds profound significance in today's fashion landscape, where beauty standards are defined through social media trends rather than inner beauty.

2. Accepting your true self

Weeks back, Gomez’s beauty brand celebrated the AANHPI community to highlight their uniqueness and authenticity.

A snap featured on the Instagram handle read a couple of self-love mantras to repeat after.

“I am proud of where I have come from and how far I have come,” one note read, while another note mentioned skin color being “strength, not weakness.”

“I give myself permission to be myself,” read the last, but not least, mantra.

3. Breaking unrealistic expectations

The founder, Gomez, has herself many times repeated the most important self-help message, which is about embracing imperfection and prioritizing mental health over perfectionism.

Accepting yourself and finding beauty through imperfection is the ultimate goal of Gomez’s makeup brand, a mission that is also pinned on their Instagram handle.

“You are not defined by a like, a comment, or someone else’s opinion of you,” Gomez often says, a quote also pinned on Rare Beauty’s Instagram handle.
