Diane Keaton’s longtime friend, Carole Bayer Sager, recalled how the actress’s weight had been dropping weeks before her death at age 79.
On Saturday, October 11, the Oscar-winning actress passed away in California, and Carole reflected on her final visit with her close friend.
“I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,” the Grammy and Oscar-winning songwriter said. “She had lost so much weight.”
Sager, who collaborated with Keaton on her solo single First Christmas, said she’d seen her less this year, as Keaton had been living in Palm Springs for several months following the California wildfires earlier in January.
“She had to go to Palm Springs because her house had been damaged inside, and they had to clean everything,” Carole explained. “She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost.”
Despite that, “she was a magic light for everyone,” Carole continued. “I just loved her. She was so special, she lit up a room with her energy. She was happy, upbeat, and taking photographs of everything she saw. She was completely creative; she never stopped creating.”
