Taylor Swift has not directly name-dropped Charli XCX in one of latest tracks, but the singer’s pointed and cryptic remarks all point in the Brat singer’s direction.

The Glitch singer gave more context into the inspiration behind Actually Romantic like promised during The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, the movie following the album drop of The Life of a Showgirl.

In the short video describing the influence, Swift stated that the song is “sort of a love letter to someone who hates you.”

The 14-time Grammy winner went on to say that sometimes you don’t know that you’re a part of someone else’s story, and it gets unveiled to you through their overt actions that you are, referring to the British singer’s diss, Sympathy Is a Knife.

However, Swift adds, seemingly for Charli “I don’t hate…you and I don’t think about this but thank you for all the effort, honestly like…. that is wow, that is very, very sweet of you to think about me this much even if its negative like in my industry attention is affection and you’re giving me a whole lot of it.”

The Guess singer had said in her initial diss that she felt insecure because of a girl, adding that she hoped that she would break up with her boyfriend so that the 33-year-old did not have to see her backstage at her boyfriend George Daniel’s shows.

Notably, this has been interpreted as a hope for The 1975 frontman Matty Healy and Swift’s breakup as Charli’s boyfriend is the drummer for the British band.

How long did Matty Healy and Taylor Swift date?

Matty and Taylor dated for a month, but had been fans of each other’s music for much longer than this.
