Taylor Swift’s new album is full of pop culture and global references but this one went unnoticed at first.
The singer dropped her new album The Life of a Showgirl on Friday and the first reactions are rolling in.
While the pop star is engaged to an American football player, she made a reference to football on her song Wi$h Li$t.
The Love Story singer was seemingly interested in footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold's controversial move from Liverpool to Real Madrid which caught her eye.
The 26-year-old player moved to the Spanish giants for a paltry £8.5m.
In the song, the 35-year-old sings about all the material things that people in the spotlight dream about which included a contract with the club, Real Madrid.
Fans quickly grabbed the reference and began the discourse online.
One wrote, “LIVERPOOL SWIFTIES do not listen to track 8 of the new Taylor swift album she brings up a sensitive topic for you guys.”
Another wrote, “Taylor Swift shading Trent Alexander-Arnold wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card.”
Interestingly, the footballer admitted in an interview that he is a Swiftie and his favourite Taylor song is Anti-Hero.
