J.K. Rowling has fired back at Emma Watson after she recently commented that she could never cancel the Harry Potter writer.

On Monday, Sept. 29, Rowling took to X with a lengthy post after noticing “quite a bit of comment” surrounding Watson’s Sept. 24 interview with Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast.

Watson, who is popularly known for playing Hermione Granger in the film adaptations of Rowling's Harry Potter novels, said she doesn’t believe in negating others based on someone else’s experiences.

On Monday, Sept. 29, Rowling addressed Emma Watson’s remarks in a lengthy post on X.

The Harry Potter author stressed that she doesn’t expect “eternal agreement” from actors who once portrayed her characters, calling the idea “as ludicrous” as consulting an old boss for her current beliefs.

Rowling argued that Watson, like many who’ve lived with fame and privilege, has a limited perspective on real-life struggles, adding that the actress is “ignorant of how ignorant she is.”

She acknowledged that Watson and her former co-stars have every right to support gender identity ideology, which she noted is legally protected.

Rowling emphasised she would never wish violence or professional threats upon them for their stance.

However, she criticised Watson and Daniel Radcliffe for positioning themselves as outspoken critics of her views, suggesting they continue to act as “de facto spokespeople” for the Harry Potter universe years after leaving the franchise.
