Pop star Ariana Grande drew an unusual response from the White House after calling out supporters of former President Donald Trump over immigration and other issues.
On Sunday, the Positions singer reshared activist Matt Bernstein’s Instagram post that criticised the Trump administration for ongoing ICE raids, social rhetoric, and what it described as threats to democracy.
The post ended with a pointed question to Trump supporters: “It’s been 250 days … has your life gotten better?”
Shortly after, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai stated to Entertainment Weekly, addressing Grande directly, and notably twisting in several of her song titles.
“Save your tears, Ariana. Because President Trump’s actions ended Joe Biden’s inflation crisis and are bringing in trillions in new investment,” Desai said. “He even signed an executive order just like magic that paved the way for the FTC to crack down on Ticketmaster for ripping off Ariana Grande’s concert-going fans. Get well soon, Ariana!”
Desai’s remarks referenced the Federal Trade Commission’s recent lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster, which accuses the companies of misleading consumers about resale prices.
Grande, who publicly supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, has long voiced progressive stances. She previously performed for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the 2014 In Performance at the White House: Women of Soul concert.
