James Corden is making his long-desired return to Broadway with a new show, ART.

After leaving The Late Show, the actor and TV host was spotted at the Music Box Theatre in New York City on Tuesday, Sept. 16, for the opening night of his new show, ART.

“When I left my talk show in Los Angeles, I really, really, really made a very definite commitment in my mind to go to work in the theater if I could,” Corden told PEOPLE. “I was really very passionate to come back to Broadway.”

Corden further explained to the outlet about the “most extraordinary experience” that theatre work gives.

“I mean, look, look, we're on a road now. There are one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight theatres on this tiny block,” he said. “It's incredible."

Corden teams up with Bobby Cannavale and Neil Patrick Harris for the first Broadway revival of Yasmina Reza’s play, which tells the story of three old friends whose bond unravels after one splurges on a minimalist, all-white painting.

Translated from French by Oscar-winning Christopher Hampton, the comedy premiered on Broadway in February 1998, earning three Tony nominations and winning Best Play.
