Tom Hanks, who portrayed late Jim Lovell in Apollo 13, remembered late astronaut in a gushing tribute.
Jim, notable for turning a “potential tragedy into a success” on the humankind’s third lunar mission in 1970, passed away on Thursday at the age of 97.
The Hollywood A-lister turned to Instagram to share a long note for the departed soul. He included the spaceman among those “people who dare, who dream and who lead others.”
The actor noted that the voyage was not for fame or wealth but “because such challenges as those are what fuels the course of being alive.”
“On this night of full Moon, he passes on to the… heavens, to the cosmos, to the stars," Tom announced to his 9.4 million followers.
He concluded the statement with a well wish for the spaceman, “God speed you, on this next voyage, Jim Lovell.”
Tom’s quote in the movie “Houston, we have a problem,” became famous as the crew faced a life-threatening situation after their oxygen tank exploded.
However, the original version in past perfect tense was changed to past perfect tense for adding a dramatic effect to the situation.
The real-life tragedy, which interrupted their mission, forced the team to return back to Earth. The moment became historic after they landed back in the Pacific Ocean, making it Jim’s last trip to the space.
