Stephen Colbert brings back his signature mocking humour to defend his CBS colleague Gayle King as President Donald Trump attacks the CBS Mornings host amid his ongoing media war.

On Tuesday night, August 5, Colbert momentarily forgot his show had been cancelled while standing up for King.

“Despite his busy schedule of pretending not to know Jeffrey Epstein while shambling across a roof, Donald Trump still finds time to be mad at TV,” Colbert said at the end of his monologue.

Then, the Emmy-winning host referenced Trump’s recent Truth Social post about King’s career.

After that, Colbert stared directly into the camera and reprimanded, “Hey, Mr. President, back off. You are messing with my beloved CBS colleague and friend, Gayle King. And if you want to get to Gayle, you have to go through my show first.”

The statement made The Late Show audience gasp and laugh nervously as Colbert leaned back, pretending to speak to someone backstage.

“What’s that?” he said. “I’m sorry. Hold on. What? Oh, I forgot,” he joked.

Did Trump testify against Epstein?

No, Donald Trump has never testified against Jeffrey Epstein. He has repeatedly denied involvement in Epstein’s criminal sex trafficking network and claimed their friendship ended around 2004.

Why is the MAGA base upset over Trump and the Epstein files?

MAGA followers are angry because Trump promised to release Epstein documents, then reversed course, sparking accusations of betrayal and cover-up.
