American country icon Jeannie Seely has tragically passed away at the age of 85.

The singer’s death comes soon after it was announced that her husband, Eugene Ward, passed away at the age of 92.

Eugene died in December 2024 from cancer, meanwhile Jeannie breathed her last on August 1.

Jeannie was best known for her songs including 1960s hits Don’t Touch Me, I’ll Love You More (Than You Need) and Can I Sleep In Your Arms?, which was released in 1973.

The late singer’s cause of death has been revealed to be a consequence of intestinal infection, according to People magazine.

The country icon had been struggling with health issues following her husband’s death as her representatives revealed she had undergone “‘multiple back surgeries this spring for vertebrae repairs”.

She had also received two emergency abdominal surgeries and spent 11 days in the intensive care unit after suffering from pneumonia.

Jeannie Seely was married twice. First to Hank Cochran from 1969 to 1979 and second to Eugene Ward from 2010 to his eventual death in 2014.
