The fate of the contentious Hulk Hogan biopic has been made public a few days after the WWE legend's unexpected death.
At his home in Clearwater, Florida, Hogan, whose real name was Terry Bollea, suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on Thursday, July 24, at the age of 71.
It was revealed in August of last year that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's Artists Equity were working on a film that would be based on Hogan's dramatic 2016 court case against Gawker Media over his leaked sex tape.
Ryan Holiday’s 2018 nonfiction book Conspiracy, Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker and the Anatomy of Intrigue served as the inspiration for the movie, which was adapted from the screenplay Killing Gawker by Oscar-winning author Charles Randolph.
Affleck was rumoured to be playing Hogan, and Gus Van Sant, the director of Damon's Good Will Hunting, was in talks to lead the project.
But this week, sources informed TMZ that Artists Equity will no longer pursue the project, which hasn't been developed "for some time."
Hulk Hogan sued Gawker Media in 2016 for publishing a leaked sex tape without his consent. He won the case and was awarded $140 million in damage, leading to Gawker’s bankruptcy.
