Leonardo DiCaprio came under heavy fire for his investment in a high-end hotel after the eco-resort got final approval to start construction.

The 50-year-old Hollywood star reportedly owns a 10% share in the posh resort that will be constructed along the affluent beachfront known as Herzliya Marina.

According to Complex, Israel's Hagag Group is working on the independent project, which was first announced in 2018, in collaboration with businessmen Ahikam and Lior Cohen.

The project was first announced in 2018 and approved for a preliminary deposit in 2024 before being given final approval by the Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee on 27 July.

The massive $270 million complex will be up to 14 stories high and cover an astounding 12.6 acres, far more than the original 2.5 acres.

It is ready to include 365 hotel rooms, conference centre, fine dining restaurant, swimming pool, and direct yacht access to the marina.

An extra two acres of lower ground area has been approved for parking and hotel operations.

The developers maintain that sustainability will be the primary focus of the hotel's construction, despite its size.
