The Comics world is mourning the demise of world's legend comic writer Jim Shooter, who died at age 73 after fighting a lifelong battle with esophageal cancer.
Shooter was considered one of the prominent comic writers in modern literature.
The news of his demise was shared by fellow-writer Mark Waid on Facebook, who also paid a heartfelt tribute to Shooter.
“I’ve just received word that Jim Shooter passed away, I regret I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye, but I’m glad that He’s finally at peace after years of suffering,” Waid wrote.
At the age of just 14, he started writing for DC Comics with titles such as Super boy, Superman.
It was Shooter’s credit that he had introduced timeless characters like Karate Kid, Ferro Lad, and Princess Projectra, which surprisingly at such a young age, he brought depth and action-focused storytelling to the superhero genre.
In late 1970s, Shooter moved to Marvel Comics and within no time, rose to the ranks.
Two years after, he became editor-in-chief of Marvel, overseeing some of the most iconic scripts in the company’s history.
Shooter’s stint as editor-in-chief at one point took Marvel sales to over 80 percent of the entire US comic book market.
Shooter had introduced paradigm shift in the Comic industry by introducing the first company-wide crossover event (Secret Wars) and a royalty system for creators that helped to recognize the efforts of writers and artists.
After leaving Marvel, Shooter co-founded Valiant Comics in 1989 and in later years, he started some ventures like Defiant Comics and Broadway Comics.
Comic fans were left shocked when Shooter announced of quitting the public life due to his health issues. He developed Esophageal Cancer, which is the 8th most common cancer in the world, and have 11th highest mortality rate.
Today, what we inherit in the comic world of literature is all due to the creative work of Jim Shooter; his legacy continues to inspire future comic writers.
Shooter played all his role perfectly until the end but ultimately lost his battle to esophageal Cancer.
