R. Kelly’s lawyers have made some shocking claims and revelations in recent days and their appeals keep getting met with rejection, but the singer’s legal team is determined to keep fighting.
The I Believe I Can Fly singer’s request for temporary furlough was denied, but his attorney Beau B. Brindley, is ready to file a new motion since the previous one was ruled out due to lack of jurisdiction.
The incident which lead to the record producer’s lawyers filed an emergency motion for his home detention, cited an inmate's confession that three prison officials asked him to kill Kelly, as the reason for the filing.
Since the motion was filed in Northern Illinois and the occurrence took place in Arizona and North Carolina where the Ignition singer is currently being detained, its denial was expected by Brindley as well.
“We are not surprised by this ruling as we knew that technical jurisdiction would be a challenge under these circumstances,” he stated to People.
The attorney also remarked on his June 18 visit to Kelly, noting, “Mr. Kelly remains in prison with blood clots in his lungs — this threatens his life every minute that he is denied the surgical intervention (pulmonary embolectomy) that Duke University hospital doctors sought to perform, but were prevented from executing.”
Brindley went on to say that this is an extremely dangerous situation, and that he plans on filing another motion.
R. Kelly was accused of sexually abusing minors in the ’90s but was prosecuted in 2002 after his explicit videos were leaked.
The Same Girl singer was found not guilty in 2008. However, law enforcement authorities reopened the investigation after the victims outlined disturbing stories about him in the 2019 documentary Surviving R. Kelly.
