‘The Mission: Impossible’ star Tom Cruise achieves a historic milestone after 35 years
Tom Cruise has been announced as recipient of honorary Oscar by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marking the iconic milestone.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning actor will be honoured with an Academy Honorary Award in recognition of his decades-long contributions in Risky Business, two Top Gun movies and several other films.
It will mark Cruise’s first Oscar after the actor has been nominated for four Oscars throughout his career but has never won.
Steel Magnolias’ actor, Dolly Parton, will also receive Academy’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic efforts, including her Imagination Library which has delivered 284 million free books to children.
The choreographer and director Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas will be among the recipients to receive special Oscars.
Janet Yang, Academy President, praised the nominees in a statement as legendary individuals “whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our film-making community continue to leave a lasting impact”
All these honourees will be awarded at the annual 16th Governors Awards gala, to be held on 16 November, 2025.
