John Legend comments on Kanye West’s downfall
John Legend and Kanye West were close as both were rising as great musicians
American musician John Legend has opened up about his feelings on the ongoing situation of Kanye West, who was once his mentor.
The actor expressed his grief for the downfall the rapper has faced after showing erratic behaviour online and making controversial statements.
John was one of the first artists Kanye signed under his music label, Good Music, in the early 2000s and also became the executive producer on John’s debut album, Get Lifted.
“‘Back then, Kanye was very passionate, very gifted, and he had big dreams not only for himself but also for all the people around him.”, the Grammy winner said to The Times.
“He had so much optimism, so much creativity”.
The singer also expressed his grief and stated it is “shocking” to see where the rapper is now after his fall from grace.
John’s wife Chrissy Teigen and Kanye’s former wife Kim Kardashian were also very close friends in the past as the two couples went on double dates together.
