‘Modern Family’ star opens up on mental health struggles

American sitcom Modern Family quickly became one of the most successful shows of the 21st century because of its relatable comedy, witty humour and dynamic characters.

The child actors on the show grow up in front of the audience till the final season in 2020.

One of the child actors, Ariel Winter, has opened up about her struggles with body image that led to mental health issues while she was on the show.

Ariel played the role of the book smart daughter of the Dunphy family, Alex Dunphy, who is considered intelligent but not as physically beautiful as her older sister Haley.

In an interview with People, Ariel shared that the heavy scrutiny on her body affected her mental health.

“That was a major part of my teenage years,” the 27-year-old expressed.

The actress said she was bombarded with headlines calling her “fat” and “terrible” when she was just 14.

Ariel was 11 when she started playing the character of Alex and went on to play that role for 11 years.
