Drizzy is making it clear that he is not intimidated by serious warnings from Universal Music Group (UMG).

This month has proved to be an eventful one in the Drake vs UMG and Kendrick Lamar saga.

Earlier on, a district judge dismissed UMG’s motion to pause discovery, which gave Drake the legal right to seek access to confidential documents such as the contract details between UMG and Lamar.

Then on Wednesday, the 38-year-old expanded his ongoing federal defamation lawsuit against the conglomerate with additional claims.

The updated filing now also alleges that Lamar’s performance in the Super Bowl 59 halftime show damaged Drake's reputation.

UMG responded to the amended complaint by cautioning Drake and warned that the lawsuit would result in financial and reputational harm for the God’s Plan rapper.

“As the old saying goes, ‘be careful what you wish for,’” the record label said in a statement, which prompted Drake’s legal team to respond to the apparent threats.

“Drake is holding the largest music conglomerate in the world accountable for its actions and doing so without fear,” a spokesperson said.

The statement continued, “It’s not Drake who should worry; it’s UMG’s current leadership… UMG claims to stand for creativity, but in fact exploits it and the artist community knows that. UMG drains artists for its profits, then discards them.”

“UMG said, ‘be careful what you ask for,’ Drake knows exactly what he asked for: the truth and accountability,” the response concluded.

It is worth noting that Drake’s lawsuit is currently in its initial stages and is expected to begin in the summer of 2026. However, it is common in defamation cases for the two parties to reach a settlement before the trial.

Why did Drake sue UMG?

The feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar intensified last year when the two rappers hurled personal insults at each other in a series of diss tracks.

The conflict led to Drake filing a lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify in November for allegedly conspiring to inflate streaming figures of Lamar’s Not Like Us.

However, in January, Drake withdrew his petition and filed a new one for defamation against UMG for allegedly promoting the diss track.
