Darth Maul animated series 'Shadow Lord' arriving on Disney+
Star Wars Celebration on Friday announces the popular villain series, set to release in 2026
Star Wars was celebrated in Japan on Friday, April 18, and took the chance to make big announcements for the upcoming years.
The globally loved franchise began in 1977, and since then, the American epic space opera has been binge-watched around the world.
In the 20th anniversary celebration of the Lucasfilm Animation panel spotlight video, the team remembered what it was like working together, creating CGI for so many years. Later, Sam Witwer walked on the stage as a surprise guest to reveal his return to the galaxy with Darth Maul: Shadow Lord.
During the panel spotlight, fans got a bit of a sneak peek at the upcoming series by Lucasfilm’s chief creative officer, Dave Filoni, and vice president of animation, Athena Portillo.
The final shot of the video of the Lucasfilm team celebrating the anniversary appears to be from the new Maul series.
Fans went wild over a brief snippet of the series. After the announcement, Athena Portillo assured that “Fans can expect to learn a lot about Maul in the series.”
“Unfortunately, I can’t tell you too much, but what I can say is Sam Witwer’s involvement in the show has been pristine,” Portillo continued. “I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well.”
The new animated series about the Star Wars villain is set after Clone Wars, as confirmed by the American actor Sam Witwer.
Witwer also shared with fans that the villain character, Darth Maul, will explore new traits.
